Introducing GROW Students Erasmo and Alondra

Project Amigo, a nonprofit that helps provide access to education for youth in the state of Colima, Mexico, is one of the primary beneficiaries of the funds raised from the purchase of GROW organic bananas. Through your purchases, Project Amigo is able to award scholarships to help bright young students attend school all the way through college by providing tuition support, tutoring, supplies and more.

We are pleased to introduce two new students to the program, funded through GROW scholarships. Both students participate in the Cerro de Ortega Homework Club and have been identified by their teachers as promising scholars.

Erasmo Enrique Rodas Gálvez is 14 years old. He suffers from a learning disability, so his grades are slightly low. But he is very dedicated to his studies and has been persistent in asking to become a GROW scholar for some time. His tenacity is why the Project Amigo staff have selected him for a GROW scholarship. Through the support of his teachers, tutors and fellow students, the Project Amigo staff think Erasmo can improve his grades and eventually secure a career and have a positive future with a better quality of life.

Alondra Geraldine Durán Hernández is also 14 years old and in the same grade as Erasmo. She is very bright and holds a high grade point average (9.7 out of a scale of 10). However, as her family is very poor, without the help of a GROW scholarship, she would not be able to continue her studies much longer. The Project Amigo staff are looking forward to watching Alondra grow in her studies and find a successful career path.

Many students in Colima would not be able to continue their studies past a young age if it weren’t for the educational scholarships that GROW organic banana purchases fund. Organics Unlimited thanks its customers for their continued support of the GROW fund. For more information on how you can help support please visit our GROW website.
